Iggy’s New Toy

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Iggy_Quazi]Iggy Quazi After many years of faithful service, I recently realised that it was time to trade in my trusty old mobile phone. Despite the jeers from my friends, I had held on to my chunky old phone well after my phone company had offered me a free upgrade. It had always performed reliably and more importantly, I knew exactly where I stood when it came to use it. As you may have guessed, I like my gadgets and was fairly excited about the prospect of getting a new phone, especially with the incredible host of features now available on the latest phones. After much research, I settled on the Sony Ericsson K750i with its colour screen, digital camera (with panoramic feature), video capture, bluetooth connectivity, access to the internet, MP3 Player and FM Radio. It also allows use of a separate memory card up to 1Gb so I can store loads of photos, songs and video. It made phone calls too! After receiving the phone I started to look into the daunting prospect of learning how to use the thing. The first task I had to tackle was getting all my phone numbers onto the phone. After consulting the manual, I found that it was possible to copy my address book directly from Microsoft Outlook on my computer over to the phone, saving me from having to manually key in all of my phone numbers. This would save me a lot of time, as long as I could get it to work! All I needed to do was install the phone’s software onto my computer from the supplied CD-ROM and connect the phone to my computer using the supplied data cable. I also had the option of connecting my phone to my computer wirelessly using the Bluetooth facility to connect to my computer, this sounded very interesting, but meant I would have to get a USB Bluetooth Dongle for my computer, so I decided to leave that for later. As these things have a habit of not working first time round, I thought I would follow the instructions to the word, rather than just delving in as I normally do! To my surprise, after following the steps in the Quick Set-up Guide, it actually worked! it was really that easy, my phone was connected to my computer and it worked. I made a few setting changes (as mentioned in the instructions) on the mobile phone software and within moments I had transferred all of my telephone numbers and addresses into my phone! The great thing here is that now I can update any new person and telephone number to my phone and my computer at the same time, all I need to do is connect the phone to the computer and one button automatically updates my computer with information on my phone or vice versa. I then got even more adventurous and thought I would try and get some music onto the phone. I have never used MP3’s before, but heard loads about it and following the instructions, within 5 minutes I had music on my phone! It even sound good. Using the camera is great too, easy and useful at times, not having to carry a separate digital camera for snaps. I thing that amazed me was how straightforward everything was, I had avoided changing the phone mainly because I did not fancy the hassle, but it was actually easier to set up then my old phone which was so basic in comparison. Within an hour I had charged the battery, added my lengthy contacts list and appointments onto the phone’s calendar as well as recorded a few songs. Brilliant! Now all I need to do is expand the memory capacity of the phone as the few songs I have put onto the phone have already used most of the memory that comes free with the phone. Apparently, I just need to buy a Memory Stick and slot it into the phone then enjoy, will try it soon. Wedding Movie Madness

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

By Samantha Taylor I love nothing more than to spend an afternoon or evening watching my favorite wedding movies. It may not be my fiances favorite pastime, but he is generally a good sport about it. He may not admit it, but he can recite certain scenes from My Best Friend’s Wedding off the top of his head. Quite a few excellent wedding movies have been released in the last couple years, and these are some of my favorites. Meet the Parents has become one of my all-time faves. It was released back in 2000, and stars the ever-so-funny Ben Stiller. The premise is typical of many wedding movies; a nervous young man is introduced to his future in-laws. What makes this movie so excitingly funny is the role of prospective Father-in-Law, played by Robert DeNiro. The dynamic that plays out between Stiller and DeNiro is unforgettable. Oh, the hilarity of it all! Meet the Fockers is a sequel to the above mentioned, and was released in 2004. This time around we have the pleasure of meeting the parents of Ben Stiller’s character, Greg Focker. His parents are played by Dustin Hoffman and Barbara Streisand, both of whom deliver unforgettable roles. They stand in stark contrast to the bride’s parents from the previous film. While the bride’s parents are somewhat conservative and stuffy, the parents of the groom are new-age leftists. These two films have become my all-time favorite wedding movies. Sooo funny! The Corpse Bride is another highly entertaining movie with a wedding theme. This animated masterpiece was released to critical acclaim in 2005. It is quirky in the way that all Tim Burton films are, and it has some of my favorite stars doing voice-over work. Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter play the lead roles. The premise goes something like this; a young man is having difficulty with his lines during his wedding rehearsal. He strays off into the forest to practice alone. He nails his lines perfectly, and places the ring on a fallen tree branchor so he thinks. It turns out that the fallen tree branch was actually the decrepit finger of the Corpse Bride, who has risen from the dead and claims to be his legal bride. Even your boyfriend will love it! Samantha Taylor is dreading her fiances bachelor party. When she is not trying to convince him to watch yet another wedding-themed movie, she writes for yourwedding101.com an informative and insightful wedding planning guide with information about wedding speeches, ethnic wedding traditions, honeymoon destinations and more. Atkins & Low-Carb - Part 3

Monday, April 21st, 2008

By Tracie Johanson Papa Murphy’s has a new low-carb pizza. Burger King has a low-carb hamburger. Applebee’s has rolled out a new low-carb menu, as have dozens of other national restaurant chains. There are low-carb tortillas, breakfast cereals, breads, and just about anything else you’d care to eat! No doubt about it…..low-carb dieting is the biggest trend since deep-fryed turkeys! But as we’ve discussed in the last few articles, low-carbing may not be right for everyone. While the evidence does support the claim that a reduction in carbohydrates will help you lose weight, conclusive evidence on the long-term impact of low-carbing remains elusive. In this article we’re going to take a look at some professional bodybuilders. With single-digit bodyfat and loads of muscle, bodybuilders are arguably among the most fit people on the planet. After all, professional bodybuilders are paid to exercise! Jay Cutler, the IFFB 2002 and 2003 Arnold Classic Champion, includes brown rice in his diet when preparing for a contest. The sample menu shown on his website, www.jaycutler.com, states that Jay eats brown rice at least twice per day. With 32 grams of carbs per serving, brown rice certainly would not make the grade with some low-carb diets. Garry Holmen, who among other things gives nutritional advice to bodybuilders, advises his clients to ‘carb cycle’ when preparing for a competition. Without going into a long explanation, carb cycling is simply reducing carbohydrate intake for 3 days and then replenishing carbohydrates stores on day 4. On carb depletion days, Garry recommends that bodybuilders still get 20% of their calories from carbohydrates. Female competitor Debbie Patton (www.debbiepatton.com), on her FAQ page, says: “I eat a diet high in protein, with moderate carbs. Lots of chicken breasts, egg whites, tuna, protein shakes, brown rice and potatoes.” Debbie is the November, 2002 NPC Mid States Muscle Classic 1st Place Womens Middleweight Overall Title & Best Abs Champion. While there are literally HUNDREDS of other examples of bodybuilding diets, these three are sufficient for our purposes: how do bodybuilders eat to get them so lean? The consistent theme you’ll find when examining the diets of all bodybuilders is that THEY DO NOT EVER COMPLETELY ELIMINATE CARBS. That’s because not all carbs are bad. On the contrary, some carbohydrate in your diet helps you maintain a balanced diet. Although most bodybuilders do not COMPLETELY eliminate carbs from their diet, it is important to note that they DO restrict carbohydrate intake. Rarely, if ever, will you see a professional bodybuilder eating the ‘garbage carbs’ that are so popular today: french fries, cake, cookies, crackers, white bread, etc. Bodybuilders are also very careful to get their carbohydrates from QUALITY SOURCES like brown rice, vegetables, and whole grains. So although they are not eliminating carbs altogether, they are eliminating ‘garbage carbs’. So what’s the bottom line? Can we learn more about low-carbing from bodybuilders? After all, they’re paid to be healthy! Most of them employ a personal doctor, trainer and nutrition expert! Here are the low-carb lessons from professional bodybuilders: 1) Most people should not remove ALL carbs from their diet. 2) Get your carbs from high-quality sources. 3) Don’t consume ‘garbage carbs’ which are those high in fat and/or have no other nutritional value. 4) If you do follow a restricted-carb diet, consider cycling in some moderate-carb days. 5) TALK WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING A LOW-CARB DIET. 6) Don’t forget to EXERCISE!!! * Copyright 2005 Pick Up The Pace. Home Protection, What Your Security System May Not Detect!

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

By Scott Green In many cases, most people feel pretty secure with a basic/standard home security system, but with todays criminals/robbers its shocking to know how many of them know there way around a security system. There are a couple of small inexpensive things you can do for you and your family that may prevent that awful robbery. A. Window Alert is home security device that attaches to windows and set off by vibrations if someone tries to break through. Installs easily on any window, There is so many cases that robbers use there window cutting device that can not be detected from a basic Security system. This little window alarm was an essential in saving the millions of lives that were threatened by a robber. B. A Home Security Device such as the Watchdog is ideal for home protection, because it accomplishes what even the best living, breathing watchdog cannot do. Rexs electronic radar eyes, the Electronic Watch Dog Home Security Device can “see” through thick doors, walls and glass. And once his cord is plugged in, he’ll stay on duty around the clock, indefinitely. The Electronic Watch Dog Home Security Device can protect homes, apartments, mobile homes, RV’s, jewelry stores, factories, warehouses, public and private buildings of virtually every kind. For example, most apartment complexes do not have a security system in the apartment units. You only go in good faith that the apartment is safe. Rex, the electronic watch dog, what an easy solution to cure a robbery scare. Barking gets louder and more frequent as the intruder gets closer. Switches from the watchdog to the tranquil sounds of nature with the simple switch of a button. Variable distance sensitivity (up to 30′) as well as volume control. Supplements your regular home security system by detecting robbers before they attempt to break into your home. C. A Nightmare Situation There are preventive solutions! 1. The Big Jammer is a home security device that is a strong 20 gauge steel adjustable door brace that installs easily under door knobs and provides added security. Adjusts easily to fit most hinged doors. End caps can be removed to allow for use on sliding glass doors as well. Clean, baked enamel finish makes it attractive for in-house use. 2. The base of the alarm is bolted to door or window frame, the actuator is connected to the window or door. The alarm is activated by opening the door or window. Great for any door particularly those hard to protect sliding glass doors. Powerful Essential Oils Kill Nail Fungus

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

By Judy Tovey Fungal infection of the nails is the one of the most difficult of all disorders to cure. Both fingernails and toenails may be affected, although toenail fungal infection is the most common type. There are a number of oral medications that have been promoted as effective cures, and, indeed, many of these medications eradicate nail fungus. However, all of these medications have the potential of causing significant toxicity, including liver damage. Oil of oregano aids in the cure primarily through topical application, although internal consumption may be necessary however, this must be under the direction of a professional health care provider. The oil has a deep penetrating power, which aids in the destruction of nail fungus, since this fungus infects the root of the nail bed as well as the surface. Regarding essential oils, oil of oreganos ability to destroy nail fungus is unmatched. Rub oil of oregano liberally into involved nails as often as possible. Be sure to reduce sugar intake. FUNGAL INFECTION OF SKIN AND NAILS Fungal infection of the skin & nails is one of the most difficult of all disorders to cure. Tea Tree and Oregano essential oils aids in eradicating primarily through topical application. These oils have a deep penetrating power, which aids in the destruction of nail fungus, since this fungus infects the root of the nail bed as well as the surface. These oils are included in our Healthy Nail Blend along with 5 other powerful essential oils. FOOT AND TOENAIL FUNGUS In the book, “The Cure is in the Cupboard: How to Use Oregano for Better Health” Dr. Cass Ingram, says: The feet harbor a variety of microbes. In fact, they are one of the most commonly infected external sites on the body. Circulation in this area is poor, and this leads to sluggish local immunity. A variety of microbes may find residence in the skin of the feet, particularly between the toes, where moisture is retained. Foul odor is a dependable sign of poor health of the feet, as is the development of scaling or athletes foot. Problem toenails may readily become infected, particularly by fungi, although bacteria, such as Pseudomonas, may also infect them. Toenail infections are difficult to eradicate, because the infection beings deep within the nail bed, and the delivery of medicine to this region is difficult. It is a little known fact that poor health of the feet affects the health of the entire body. Thus, for optimal health the feet must be kept clean and free of infection. Wash the feet often and be sure to keep the toenails well manicured. Clean any debris that might accumulate about the toenails or between the toes. Rub oil of oregano once or twice daily over the nail beds, the soles and between the toes. Dont neglect the health of the feet; your body will pay a price as a result.” CHILDREN SKIN AND NAIL FUNGUS Children usually fail to attend to good hygiene and their hand washing technique is usually poor, if they wash at all. The fingernails are one of the dirtiest regions of children, microbially. The underside of the nails often contain a reservoir of microbes, especially if the nails are long. It is well known that parasitic infections in children are spread by poor hygiene; and entire day care center can become infected from one carrier. The hands are the main mode of transmission, but it is the underside of the fingernails that house the parasitic cysts and eggs. In particular, parasites tend to reside under the nails, and from there they readily reintroduced into the body. The fingernails must be kept neatly trimmed. Wash the edges of the nail beds with a soap and oil of oregano solution. If this is done regularly, the incidence of infectious disease in children will be curbed dramatically. Be sure to educate children regarding the importance of hand washing. Oil of oregano and/or Tea Tree essential oil helps reduce the risk for contracting microbial infections. they can be used both on the body and on inanimate objects. It may be added to soaps and body washes. They are a universal antiseptic, and there is no limit to the versatility of its uses. Infections spread like wildfires in public establishments, especially schools. Instruct children to use the oils during hand washing to prevent the transmission of infection from child to child and also to prevent it from arriving at home. Fortunately, we can lower the risk of infection by paying scrupulous attention to personal hygiene. Infection is often caused by the foreign bodies (germs) which enter our body through the mouth, nose, eyes, and fingernails, as well as through cuts in our skin. Good hygiene won’t prevent cuts, but it can eliminate many of the germs that are lurking around our eyes, mouth, nose, and fingernails. Have You Turned into a Kipper Since Graduation?

Monday, April 14th, 2008

By Waller Jamison In the UK, seven million adults are still living with their parents: 2 million of them are over 30, with another million close to 40. They are known as Kippers Kids in Parents Pockets Eroding Retirement Savings. And the problem isnt confined to Britain its emerging in all developed countries, with a particularly high percentage in Japan, where Kippers have an even more derogatory name - parasite singles. As more young people leave university with huge debts, many have no choice but to move back in with Mum and Dad. Given the present pension crisis, this is bad news for all concerned. Why is it so difficult for graduates to get jobs? The government is encouraging school leavers to stay in education. In 1980, 13% of Britains young adults went to university. That figure has risen to 41.5%, but large companies have not increased their graduate intake. Competition is tough for a place on graduate training schemes. So how can new graduates prepare themselves to get the job theyve been dreaming of for years? And what does this mean for older people, returning to the workplace after a break? Government predications for this years finalists may be confident, but predictions and statistics are irrelevant if you, or your son or daughter, cant get the job they have studied so hard for. Despite official optimism, many young people are experiencing serious difficulties and are struggling to get into their chosen fields, even after postgraduate study. What can Kippers do to help themselves get better jobs? In fact, Mums of Kippers may also be thinking about going back to work, but both groups are lacking some of the information they need. To succeed in todays job market, it is absolutely essential to use every method available. Yet most resources ignore a vital aspect of the job search process application forms. Many UK employers especially firms committed to equal opportunities refuse to accept CVs. All applicants must complete a form, with a blank page on which to sell themselves, a prospect which fills most people with dread. But its not as difficult as it seems. There is a simple formula which will enable applicants to complete this section of the form, often referred to as the supporting statement, effectively and in a way which will make a great impression. Here it is: candidates must address all the skills on the person specification and give examples. Employers dont want to read that you are a good team player, with excellent communication skills they want proof that you have these skills. Take your time to really think about what the employer wants and be sure that the examples you use match their needs. Your application form should be full of action verbs. Cut out any unnecessary padding and be sure to write a compelling statement which is achievement orientated and shows exactly how you meet the criteria for the post. Follow this advice and you will greatly improve your chances of being invited for interview. Waller Jamison 2005 Waller Jamison is a freelance careers advisor, based in Islington, North London. Houston DWI Fines

Friday, April 11th, 2008

By Max Bellamy Houston DWI fines have become stiffer over the years with the laws becoming harsher. There is increased societal pressure on the law enforcement agencies to stop the menace of drunken driving. Drinking and driving, as they say, dont go together. It is no different in the case of Houston. The good thing about Houston DWI laws is that they have been able to control or reduce the number of fatalities arising out of DWI accidents. Steeper fines have been brought into place in Houston for DWI offenses. These steeper fines are debated and then passed as bills in legislatures. Law enforcement agencies are getting tougher with DWI offenders and doing their best to ensure strict adherence to laws by citizens. There are stricter driver responsibility laws in place in Houston now than ever before. You can end up paying through the nose for a DWI conviction. A first time offender could end up paying around $1,000 and a second DWI offense could set you back by $1,500. The charges being cumulative, a convicted driver can end up paying potentially $2,500 in a year. Now that is a reasonably good amount of money that you can end coughing up. It is therefore important that you hire the services of a good DWI attorney to fight your case. A Houston DWI attorney may be able to successfully defend you and substantially reduce the amount of the fine. A Houston DWI attorney may be able to point out the mistakes that the law enforcement agencies may be made during the conviction or argue on the basis of wrong procedures adopted during the chemical tests. The sooner you hire a professional the better, during a Houston DWI charge. Now for those of you who are wondering what the state does with money collected from fines, the answer is simple. They money so collected is used for funding important state projects. The trauma centers and the regional emergency medical services stand to gain from the collected fines. They add up to the states kitty. Houston DWI Lawyers provides detailed information on Houston Alcohol Treatment, Houston DWI Arrests, Houston DWI Defense, Houston DWI Fines and more. Choose Gastric Banding For Weight Loss

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

By Eric Hartwell The best thing I have ever done regarding my increasing weight was to undergo Gastric Banding. I did think long and hard about my options and decided that for me, at this time, this was right. I have under taken just about every diet going, counted calories, drunk only soup, cut out carbs, reduced fat, you name it I have tried it! Sometimes I have had a good result and sometimes I have worked hard and lost nothing. In a way losing the weight was mostly easy, whenever you start a new diet you are motivated, so you stick to the regimen, exercise and you see pounds fall of. But the problem is, for me anyway, keeping it off once the motivation wanes, once you stop the diet and try to eat “normal” foods. Health issues were starting to be a problem for me. I wanted to lower my risks, so I decided I needed a more permanent solution. The choices were between gastric banding and gastric bypass surgery. I looked at gastric bypass surgery but felt that was too drastic, having part of my stomach cut away to make the small pouch, even though it is completely reversible. So I decided on a gastric band. In this, a band is positioned around the outside of the stomach and once fluid is added to it, it causes a restriction, forming a small pouch at the top. You then can only eat limited amounts of food as this small pouch fills quickly and gives you a feeling of being full. You drastically cut down on the amount of food you eat causing you to lose weight easily and it makes it difficult, unless you continually overeat and stretch the pouch, to put weight back on. You can find out more about ways to lose weight or you can share your opinions at the world’s best homepage.
