Weight Loss Essentials

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

By Bruno Brown Your weight increased a little during winter or at the time of a change of life or a difficult period… Result: you don’t feel comfortable with your body, and the loss of a few pounds would make you feel better. Here are some tips to lose weight without false notes… Your weight loss success depends from two conditions: you must change your food habits AND increase your physical activity. If you do not have any physical exercise today, there is no need starting to workout like crazy, but a daily walk or a little swimming each week can already make a big difference. Caution! If you need to loose 10 pounds or more, consult a doctor or a dietician because a regular follow-up is indicated. Some weight loss principles Losing weight is based on a few solid principles: * Give yourself at least a month to lose 4 to 6 pounds * Always prevent hunger and tiredness * Stick to your plan and rules fixed at the beginning * Avoid deficiencies in vitamins and minerals * Don’t use diet drugs or weight loss foods * Eating must stay a pleasure Set your rules and stick to them To change your food habits, it is necessary to moderately reduce your caloric intakes, i.e. initially the fat content and fast sugars. It is absolutely necessary to respect good food practices by adding some simple rules to it. * Don’t skip meals, especially breakfast which must remain copious. Have a light evening meal; * Don’t eat apart from your meals. If you feel hungry between meals, drink a large glass of water, a coffee or a tea without sugar. Also drink before your meal and in the middle of your meal; * Use starchy foods with each meal: pasta, rice, potatoes or bread. You will get a feeling of satiety and procure the energy you need, with fibres as well. On the other hand you should avoid all that accompanies them like fatty sauces, butter, cheese, etc. Just consume these starchy foods alone or with a sugar or fat free seasoning; * Don’t consume sugared beverages * Don’t drink alcohol or beer although one glass of red wine a day is ok. * Avoid eating outdoor because it is more difficult to control your food. In some restaurants it is possible, but being invited by friends makes it a lot harder. If you share a good meal with other people, decrease your quantity of food and never have a second serve. * Choose lean meats and privilege poultries without skin, fish and shellfish; * Attention with hidden fats : avoid meat prepared with sauces, fat pork deli’s, cheese toppings, butter or cream, gruyere and eggs, fried foods, viennese buns and pastry, sweets and chocolate, ice-cream, and aperitif snacks; * Eat vegetables at will and alternate the preparation: raw, cooked and as soup; * Have two fruits a day, but not more Choose the right cooking mode for your food * Meat: roasted or grilled * Fish: roasted, tinfoil cooked in the oven or microwave * Make your seasonings and sauces as light as possible: use a little oil, butter or cream, then use lemon, yoghourt, a stock cube and soya sauce, finally season at taste with aromatic herbs and spices. Determination above all! While complying with these nutritional rules, to lose weight it is wise choosing the right energy foods. It is thus useful to be informed about the nutritional value of food. It’s up to you to stay motivated and not to yield to temptations. The first week will be the most difficult one, but when you notice that you lost 2 pounds already, you will keep going. Small variations during your weight loss period are allowed as long as they are exceptional. You will need to find the right balance without falling into food obsession or frustration. If you don’t find this balance you will probabely start to nibble impulsively after which you will feel guilty and deprive you from any food and … fall into a totally unproductive cycle compared to your weight loss objective! Do You Have Precious Rare Coins in Your Purse or Change Jar?

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

By Charles Roman A Guide to Rare Coins in Circulation Today It’s usually a small thing that turns regular looking money into valuable rare coins. Last year’s materials used instead of this year’s, a tiny symbol left off a minting die. Collectors covet the unusual and uncommon above all else, and these minor oversights result in a very limited number of coins. This means that supply is much lower than demand, and even something that looks almost exactly like a common penny can actually be a precious rare coin. Even more interesting is that many of these rare coins were released into circulation before anyone realized that a mistake had been made. Because not many people know what distinguishes precious rare coins from run-of-the-mill legal tender, these coins can remain in circulation for decades, until a lucky coin collector recognizes them. How would you feel if you knew that you had handed over a penny worth $2,000 or more as change for a dollar? This guide will help you recognize a few exceptional American rare coins that you just might have lying around your house, shoved in a change jar, or tucked away into a pocket. Rare Coins with Mistakes in the Printing One of the most common mistakes that turn normal coins into limited rare coins is a mistake in the printing. In the case of a nickel minted in 1964, the problem happened when a plate was cleaned too often, and a part of one letter was worn away, leaving the Jefferson nickel with the inscription E PLURIDUS UNUM. It took collectors quite some time to catch on to the misspelling of the word PLURIBUS, but now these limited nickels are highly sought after. A similar problem resulted in the 1970-S Atheist Cent, when the motto In God We Trust was covered with a blob of metal, causing it to read only In God. Another common oversight is when the mint mark, the tiny letter on most American coins that indicates which mint created the coin, is missing or incorrect. Some rare coins with this mistake include the The 1982 no-P Roosevelt dime. The Philadelphia mint used no mint mark until 1980, when it started stamping coins with tiny P’s. Yet somehow, a small number of dimes minted in 1982 were a throwback to the time before the mint mark, and bear no letter P. There were only a few coins with this error, and their scarce nature has made them valuable to collectors. A similar problem happened in Philadelphia a few years later, when the P on the die of some 1989 quarters was clogged with dirt, preventing the coins from being properly stamped. Rare Coins with Double Printing Minting problems don’t only involve the writing on the coin. Sometimes a problem with the die causes a coin to be double stamped accidentally, resulting in a very unusual form of rare coins. Some precious coins with double stamping include doubled-die Lincoln cents from 1972, 1983, and 1984, and a doubled quarter minted in New York in 2001. Rare Coins with the Wrong Metals Other than printing problems, another reason why rare coins can be minted is when the wrong precious metals are used to make the coins. American coins have undergone several changes in material. For example, during World War II, pennies were made out of steel, because copper was needed for the war effort. Nevertheless, a very few pennies were minted in 1943 out of copper instead. These rare coins are worth upwards of $200,000 today, and they look exactly like any other penny. As you can see, sharp-eyed coin collectors can really make a profit by keeping their eyes for rare coins in everyday transactions. Most people wouldn’t look twice at a unique find like a 1943 copper penny or a dime that’s missing a letter nearly too small to see. By knowing what coins are limited and rare, you could make an exceptional find just sorting through your household change. A Very Good Reason Why You Should Get to Know Your Prospects Well

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

By Eve Jackson So, you probably know how important marketing is to your business success. But, do you know where to start? Marketing isn’t magic. Nor is it rocket science, but people have spent an awful lot of time figuring out what works and what doesn’t. There’s no point in trying to reinvent the marketing wheel. Any idea you have has probably been done before, and probably more than once too. Now, that’s no insult. It’s simply the truth. Marketing has been around since… well, pretty much since forever. Marketing involves basic premises that have been tested over time, and more than a little common sense. One of those basic premises has to do with your typical client. Who is she or he? And why is it important to know her well? An effective marketing message is written for that typical client. The best copywriting is like a conversation. While you’re writing, picture her sitting in the chair across from you. She doesn’t want to be talked to, does she? She wants to be conversed with. She wants a conversation. In order to do that, you need to know a little about her. In fact, the more you know about her, the better your conversation is. Who do you have better conversations with? Someone you know only a very little about, or your best friend? There are certain instances where it’s vital to know more than just a little about her. Let me show you with an example. A friend of mine and her boyfriend have taken a trip someplace warm for the last three years. Now, they havent always used the same travel agent, but they did use the same one twice, in the first two years. So, the pattern is a trip every year in January or February, smack dab in the middle of the coldest part of our winter. And trust me, it is cold here in winter. I shiver just at the thought Anyway, doesnt it make sense, knowing that these two have taken a trip every year for the last three, that these two might, just maybe take a trip in January or February of 2007? And if you were a travel agent, particularly one of the two that have helped them with their travel plans, doesnt it make sense to send them a short note wishing them a Merry Christmas, and an oh, by the way, theres a seat sale on such and such a date for Cancun. Would you like me to send you some info about it? Sorry for the long-winded sentence. But doesnt it make sense? Does to me. If I was a travel agent, you can bet your bottom dollar Id be betting those two want to go someplace warm this winter. And you can bet your bottom dollar Id find a way to remind them that I helped them get that great trip last year. And while were on the subject, doesnt it make sense to you to send them a short note before their holiday wishing them a good time? Or a short note after their holiday thanking them? Does to me. Know thy prospect. And know her well. ‘Cuz if you know her well, you can have a conversation with her on paper. You’ll know her deepest wants and desires. You’ll know her deepest problem. And you’ll know how to convince her that you hold the solution. She’ll know you can give her exactly what she wants. Get More Clients: Learn How to Talk About What You Do

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

By Michael Port One of the main reasons that solo-professionals, service professionals and small business owners fail to build thriving businesses is that they struggle to articulate exactly what they do in this new vibrant, branded and authentic wayand most importantly what specific Invest-able Opportunities they bring to the table. They arent compelling and the message comes off as bland and confusing. As a result, they miss countless opportunities to meet and recruit potential clients. Can you personally relate? Until you are able to clearly articulate exactly what you do, and the Invest-able Opportunities that you offer, and the all the benefits that clients will experience as a result of working with you, you will be missing out on enormous opportunity for growth and success. Remember people dont buy products or services. And they certainly don’t buy the technical name that represents your profession (i.e. graphic designer, consultant, financial planner, etc.) They buy solutions to their problemssolutions that you can personally deliver because of your unique abilities and your personal and professional experience. If you’re a yoga teacher, I think you’ll agree that saying youre a yoga teacher is not particularly compelling. I may already have a preconceived notion of what a yoga teacher does or is like. However, saying “I help professional women reclaim their bodies from the evil corporate empire and access their true feminine qualities of mystery, intimacy and sensualityliving part two of the life they were meant to live! may start a more interesting conversation. It may also get a chuckle… which is a good thing. 2005 Michael Port & Associates LLC Get more clients with Michael Port, expert marketing coach for small business owners and professional service providers. Fresh Flowers For Funerals

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

By Steve Valentino Of the many gifts that nature has offered, fresh flowers prove to be a visual pleasure. Obviously, fresh flowers are best left where they bloom so as to wither naturally. But, their beauty and aesthetic value have had an emotional impact on people. A number of florists, fresh flower shops and companies have used fresh flowers to earn their livelihood and people commonly need them for decorative traditional spiritual and holistic purposes. Of their many uses, when fresh flowers are used for funerals they prove to be a symbol of solidarity in times of sorrow. Funerals are ceremonies that allow people to respect a departed soul while family members and friends bond and mourn their loss. It is an occasion when people pay their tributes and offer their condolences. At times like this, most people opt to present flowers. Whether a part of tradition or a gesture, fresh flowers used at funerals send a strong message of caring. Whether it is a bouquet or wreath, white is a popular funeral flower color as it signifies peace. When offering arrangements for such a somber occasion, fresh flower decorations too, are muted and classy. Most flowers used are self-expressive as a result of their colors. Yellow, blue and red are common choices as well. Most fresh flower arrangements for funerals go together with miniature sympathy notes. This allows grieving family members to identify visitors once the actual funeral is over. Fresh flowers for funerals are express delivered by florists when people who can not attend the funeral for whatever reason send them. Most florists follow basic funeral wreath patterns that are modified in case of special requirement. These are purchased when needed so seasonal availability influences purchase. Fresh flowers will always lift the spirits of a bereaved family and are the best way to offer condolences. The Unforgivable Sin - What is It?

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

By Candace Marra “Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.” –Matthew 12:31 This Scripture has created fear and confusion in a lot of people, primarily because so many do not have a clear understanding of what Jesus was saying. In interpreting Scripture, we always have to remember to keep it in context with the text around it and the rest of the Bible. We should often ask ourselves what this would have meant to the people it was spoken to. So let’s examine this verse more closely, using these considerations. In looking at the rest of the Bible, we see that Jesus died on the cross to cover all sins. A number of verses prove this. See Romans 6:21-26 and Hebrews 8:12. As you have learned in this book, the entire New Testament focuses on the grace and forgiveness we have received through the blood of Christ, which cleanses us from all sin. What that means for us, then, is that there is more to this Scripture about the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit than it seems. To say throughout the Bible that all sins are forgiven, but then to have it say in one place that there is one unforgivable sin, would be a contradiction. Let’s look at the context. Jesus was talking to the Pharisees. The Pharisees had accused Jesus of casting out demons by the power of the devil. Jesus did everything He did under the power of the Holy Spirit, so in making this accusation, the Pharisees were not speaking against Jesus, but against the Holy Spirit. These are the same Pharisees who had spoken against Jesus on numerous occasions. This was the first time, however, that they had spoken against the Holy Spirit. Previously, when they spoke against Jesus, calling him a deceiver among other things, they were speaking against Jesus as a man. However, when they saw the working of miracles and the casting out of demons, they couldn’t deny the power. However, instead of giving glory to God, they attributed the work to the devil. In order to do this, the Pharisees had to harden their hearts against the work of the Holy Spirit. Jesus Himself had said that if people didn’t believe His words, to at least believe His works. Their refusal to believe His works and the resulting blasphemy against the Holy Spirit demonstrated that the Pharisees were incapable of accepting Christ and being born again. Their blasphemy against the Holy Spirit was a blatant rejection of Christ that stemmed from their hardness of heart. They were determined not to believe. This meant that they would go to their graves without ever being born again. This is what was unforgivable. There is only one sin that can send you to hell, and that is the sin of living a lifetime without accepting Christ. The blasphemy of the Pharisees proved that they would ultimately die without Christ and one day answer for that sin. In that moment, they had made their decision and sealed their fate. Dating Profile Photo Tips: How A Good Picture Can Improve Your Profile!

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

By Dave Thomas You’re ready to try online dating. You’ve polished your profile, and your best friend has concluded that you are so attractive that even they would like to date you. It’s come to that time! Somebody online wants to see what you look like. What picture of yourself will you paint when you display one along with your profile? There are a few guidelines that apply to online dating pictures that you should observe which will improve your profile. These are as follows: 1. Do add at least one picture of yourself to your profile! If you don’t, you’re seriously putting yourself at a disadvantage. Many people search only for people who have uploaded pictures. Still others don’t like the idea of a “blind date,” and won’t go through with a meeting if they haven’t seen what you look like. 2. Remember that you are trying to be a salesperson here; you’re trying to sell yourself. Look at the photographs of other people on the online dating site. Is yours similar? If so, you will not stand out from the crowd! The picture you post should be good quality. Do yourself a favour and forget the shot that someone took of you when you were at a nightclub last month, cut off just to one side where your ex was still in the picture. There are tons of pictures like this, and they don’t make people want to find out more! Your profile will be more attractive than if you hadn’t posted a picture, probably, but you’re still not going to stand out from the crowd and do yourself justice. Ask yourself what you would want to see if you were a member of the target audience (usually the opposite sex), looking at your profile for the first time, and be critical. At the very least, have a picture taken of yourself for the express purpose of using with your dating profile. You don’t need to have had it done professionally, although it certainly wouldn’t hurt! I suggest you find yourself someone who has a digital camera (or have them borrow yours) and can take pictures well, and offer them a pint or three to take several pictures of you. Get them to take a fair number of pictures (20 or so), perhaps on different settings, because not all of them may work well, and because you then have a good selection to choose from. Choose your backdrop carefully! A nice simple approach is to go to a field or a beach when it’s near sunset, and have pictures taken of yourself against this background. The background you choose should show yourself in a romantic or fun setting, and your clothes should be appropriate to that setting. How about an interesting alternative? If you know somebody who is good with art packages such as Paint Shop Pro, have them paint out the background, and change the picture so that it looks like a spotlight is shining on you! 3. It may be a good idea to try and improve the picture, as is often done of pictures of models in advertising. If you have any obvious, but small, disfigurements, these could be airbrushed out with a painting package. If you can’t do it yourself, you probably know someone who can do it for you. Don’t go overboard with this; make sure the picture still looks like you! 4. Don’t be tempted to lie by posting a picture of George Clooney or Catherine Zeta Jones, unless of course you really are one of those people! The picture must be one of yourself, otherwise when it comes to a face-to-face meeting, the occasion is likely to end before it begins! 5. This tip is not well-known. Add a border to your picture, coloured the same as the hyperlinks on the target site. The reason for this is partly to make your picture stand out, but also because most pictures shown on online dating agency sites are also links to your profile. Your picture will then look like a link, and it increases the chance of it being clicked on. If there is any “outside” to your picture, this should then have the exact same colour as the background of the site. This can be found by using Alt-Print Screen to grab an image of your web browser when on the dating site, then pasting it into an art package, and identifying the colour from there. (Note that some online dating agency sites already supply borders around images; the trick will not work on these.) 6. If you have several pictures of you doing interesting activities and the site permits it, post one picture of you doing each activity in addition to your head-and-shoulders shot. For example, pictures of you skiing while on holiday; pictures showing you braving the rapids in white-water rafting; pictures of you doing your favourite sport. They help to prove that you do the things you say you do in your profile, and they make your profile more interesting! Wedding - Second Time Around

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

By Terrie Cogswell Are you a divorcee or perhaps a widow looking to tie the knot a second time around? Have no fear; you’re not the first or only one to do this, nor will you be the last. Overall, it’s not as difficult as you may think. Look at the bright side; you have an advantage as a second bride. You already know the routine and most of what is going to happen and or be expected. Therefore, make this time around be even more special. Make it special for you instead of special for everyone else. Since most couples plan and pay for their own wedding, try to stay realistic and keep within your budget lines. Let’s start with the ceremony. What type of ceremony do you wish to have? Even though formal is not out of the question, chances are you will want this second wedding to be a little more subtle, your own style, and your own way. Perhaps a quiet and romantic ceremony with just the two of you and the witnesses. Maybe you would like something just a little bigger with a few family members and friends. Think about some special changes to the ceremony to make it more your own. For instance, writing your own vows, reading a special poem, or perhaps singing a song to your partner. Karaoke is a big hit now days. Now let’s move on to the second wedding dress. Try choosing a dress that fits the theme and formality of the wedding celebration. In most cases, it’s probably not going to be quite as big, formal, or fancy as the first, but that’s okay. You should go with what’s comfortable, go with your life style and or personality. On that note, this is the best way to choose your dress as well. Maybe a simple cocktail dress would suit your taste or if it’s in the middle of summer, perhaps a nice bright sundress would do the trick. For instance, if you were having your ceremony out on the open beach with twenty or less guests, the cocktail dress would probably not fit the scene very well. However, a bright and breezy sundress fits quite perfectly. Get the idea? The same rule applies about the option of a veil. The veil is somewhat traditionally reserved for first time brides, however, why not a stylish hat or some nice fresh flowers for a headpiece. There usually isn’t any bridal shower or gift giving like in a first and more formal wedding. If any gifts at all are given, it will more than likely be something small, perhaps romantic gifts for the bride and groom to take on their honeymoon, or simply just cash to spend on or help with the honeymoon. Most couples remarrying already have what ever is needed within a household and now, maybe even doubles. Here’s a tip: If both parties have the essentials to fill a home, get together, sort out the better of the items, and have a big yard sale with the extras. That will bring in a few extra dollars that I’m sure you could find something special to do with. What about children? I say, the more the merrier. If children are involved, whether it be children of the bride, the groom, or both, make sure they have a special part in this event. Let them be part of the ceremony. Let them be creative and helpful to the festivities. It will also help with the binding of them together as a family. Relationship Advice: Powerful Tips for Staying Close and Connected

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

By Jeff Herring Staying close in your relationship does not just happen. Staying close requires conscious attention and effort. Here are two powerful tips for staying connected and close. 1) Guard your heart. Affairs are the first thing most people think of when I say guard your heart. And it’s the first place to start. As flawed human beings, each and every one of us is vulnerable to falling into an affair. Each and every one of us. If you believe this applies to your neighbor but not you, then you are more vulnerable than your neighbor. At the same time, guarding your heart means much more than just protecting yourself from an affair. Your heart can go to many other places and treasure many other things beside your partner. Your treasure can be a career, a hobby, friends, or even watching television. Where do you find your thoughts going? In what areas of life do you feel the most passion? Your treasure is where your passion and thoughts go. Here’s the thing to remember: w herever your treasure is, that is where your heart is going to be also. 2) Frequent recommitment and celebration. There is the horrible old joke about the elderly couple that had been married for many years, and one day the wife says, “Why do you never tell me you love me anymore?” The husband responded, “Well, honey, I told you I loved you the day we got married, and if anything changes, I’ll let you know.” What a jerk, right? Yet we often act this way without even realizing it. Our relationships are on autopilot and we just assume people know how we feel about them. Here are 3 ways to put this idea into action: 1) Once a year, on your anniversary, say your vows to each other again. 2) At least once a year or so, go to a marriage conference or retreat. 3) Celebrate monthly, on the date you got married. If you married on the 24th, then on the 24th of each month, have a “mini-anniversary” and celebrate in some way. Practice these two principles for staying close and connected.
